Patent specialist (in-house)

We are looking for a patent specialist to be part of the IP – Patents & Know How team of Pirelli, reporting to the head of the function and to directly carry out the assigned activities directed to build and increase the value of Pirelli patent portfolio.

The main responsibilities requested to the candidate are:
•proactively search for opportunities within the Company of identifying and patenting inventions (for new products, methods and/or processes), and evaluate the proposals coming from the R&D function;
•accurately study the patent proposals in order to understand the core of the technical result, search and compare with prior art, identify the invention to construe a patent broad in scope and in line with the business of the Company;
•prosecute the patent applications through the various formal and substantial examinations by the patent offices, including oppositions by third parties;
•monitoring third party patents to identify new trends or possible threats;
•provide the other functions of the Company with the needed support in patent and know how matters.

The ideal candidate has the following experience and skills:
•scientific degree with focus on polymer/rubber chemistry (e.g. degree in chemistry or chemical engineering)
•at least 5 years of experience in patent matters (in-house or in patent firms)
•registration as Italian or European Patent Attorney is preferred
•passion for innovation and strong teamwork attitude
•written/spoken English is mandatory
