Tyre Test Maintenance Fitter – CARLISLE plant


Shift Pattern: Pirelli Carlisle operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Shifts for this role are 40 hours per week, alternating between 6am – 2pm and 2pm – 10pm.


Pirelli Tyres Ltd is seeking a Tyre Test Maintenance Fitter to work at its site in Carlisle.  Our ideal candidate will be expected to perform maintenance and repair of tyre testing machines/equipment. Calibration of tyre testing equipment in-line with local control plan calibration frequencies. And project work associated with annual capex expenditure


Reporting directly to the senior test engineer, main duties will include:

  • Maintenance (PM) and repair of tyre testing machines/equipment, including mechanical transmissions, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment and components as required.
  • Diagnosis/fault finding of malfunctioning machines/equipment, including electrical testing and    repairs.
  • Routine maintenance/safety check schedules.
  • Calibration of tyre testing equipment in-line with local control plan frequencies.
  • Project work associated with annual capital expenditure.
  • Assist the other tyre test fitter when required.
  • Carry out safe lifting operations using overhead cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment.
  • Effective repairs of mechanical/electrical equipment using techniques such as welding, fabrication, machining (lathe and milling), fitting and assembly, software diagnostics and system fixes.
  • Effective communication with the indoor operators and senior test engineer regarding any breakdowns, machines/instruments running outside specification, or any unsafe conditions
  • Comply with all safety norms and regulations of working.
  • Complete all tasks set by the senior test engineer.
  • Attend relevant training and development activities.


The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

  • Time served Mechanical / Electrical Fitter with appropriate technical qualification(s).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic principles with ability to read and understand complicated schematic drawings.
  • Good aptitude for fault finding, diagnostics and repairs.
  • Ability to install and integrate new machinery into the department.
  • FLT license desirable, willingness to undertake training and put into practice essential.
  • Working at height training.
  • Good communication.
  • Sound technical knowledge of the processes and machinery.
  • Self motivated, focussed and able to work on own initiative.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • High level of resilience and able to work effectively under pressure.
