An integral member of the UK HSE team, the post holder will have responsibilities for the Carlisle site, including advising managers on the legal requirements affecting Health, Safety and the Environment and carrying out Safety and Environment inspections and audits at the discretion of senior management.

Support will also be required for other sites including Burton and Didcot on an occasional basis.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that HSE management system requirements are implemented and maintained in accordance with the ISO14001:2015 & ISO 45001:2018 specification
  • Ensuring that reports on the performance of the HSE management systems are created for presentation by HSE Manager to top management for review and as a basis for improvements of the HSE management systems
  • Advising on current legislation, affecting Safety, Health and the Environment
  • Advising on the prevention of injury to personnel. The prevention of damage to plant or equipment and minimising environmental impact to the surrounding area
  • Legal notification to the relevant Enforcing Authority following incident/accident or injury
  • Advising on the provision and use of protective clothing and equipment & environmental equipment
  • Advising with regard to potential hazards at pre-commencement of contracts and advice regarding current site Safety & Environmental organisation
  • Advising regarding new methods of safe working practices arising from new developments
  • Advising on changes in U.K. and European legislation
  • Arranging for the investigating of incidents, accidents or dangerous occurrences to determine the root causes and prevents recurrence
  • Recording information/details of all accidents & incidents, and managing the accident & incident report data
  • Preparing analysis of incidents at least yearly to target improvements
  • Reporting incident details to Milan head office monthly using HSEDM
  • Reporting serious incidents to Milan head office and checking serious incidents from other factories are controlled locally
  • Assisting with/delivering training for all levels of employees
  • Maintaining liaisons with official and professional bodies, e.g. Health and Safety Commission and Executive, Local Authorities, I.O.S.H. & Environmental Health
  • Keeping the Company up to date with recommended Codes of Practice and new Safety & Environment literature and posters and circulating information applicable to each level of employee
  • Taking part, when applicable, in site Management/Operatives discussions on injury, damage, wastage control & Environmental matters
  • Fostering on site an understanding of injury prevention, damage & impact control as an integral part of business and operational efficiency
  • Carrying out Safety & Environmental inspections in all working areas at the request of the HSE Manager
  • Liaising with the Insurance Company on claims control
  • Preparing defence statements where necessary for claims
  • Liaising with the Occupational Health Nurse on work related health issues including return to work interviews and capability matters
  • Support HSE Manager to keep the self-assessment and management plan up to date and adding new items for investment as required
  • Willingness to travel and work in other Pirelli sites on an occasional basis
  • Carrying out other duties as may be reasonably requested by the department manager

 

Education

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Certificate and willingness to study and complete NEBOSH Diploma

Preferred:

  • NEBOSH Diploma

 

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Relevant industrial experience in a Health and Safety role
  • A sound problem-solving ability
  • Flexibilty to attend site as required in event of an emergency or other critical situation
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office packages including excel, word and powerpoint
  • Innovator, facilitator, co-ordinator
  • Good communication and networking skills
  • Sound technical knowledge of the processes and machinery
  • Self-motivated, focused and able to work on own initiative
  • High level of resilience and able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Willingness to undertake training and put into practice

The role is full-time, 40 hours per week over 5 days.  We have a Smart working policy (hybrid working; 3 days in the office and 2 days at home), although any new starters to the business will be required to be in the office on a full-time basis initially.
